CAT 2019 Exam Analysis

This year the CAT 2019 exam was taken by approx 209,926 candidates. A total of 2,44,169 candidates had registered for the Exam but the number of candidates that appeared for the exam was not as same as the number of candidates applied for the exam. The exam was conducted by IIM Kozhikode in two slots on November 24, 2019. CAT 2019 exam was conducted in 376 test centers in 156 cities in India. As per the information released by IIM Kozhikode, 14.02% of the candidates applied didn’t appear for the CAT 2019 exam. The exam was conducted successfully in a defect-free environment. The exam was conducted on 24th November in two slots- Morning & Evening. As per our analysis, the CAT 2019 exam has remained a bit easier as compared to the last two years’ exam. The exam is moderately difficult.

Overall Highlights of CAT 2019 Exam

  • CAT 2019 was easier as compared to CAT 2018
  • Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VARC) section was the toughest of all the other sections.
  • Reading Comprehension section of both the slots contains 5 RC passages; one or two out of them were tricky and complicated.
  • DILR and QA sections were comparatively easier than VARC
  • QA section has many questions from Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry topics.

CAT 2019 Exam Slot-1 Analysis

The Slot-1 exam was conducted on the morning of 24th November 2019 and its timing was from 9 am to 12 Noon. There were a number of MCQs in Slot-1 of the exam. This the expected CAT 2019 cut off score for getting 99 percentile is to remain between 155 and 160.

  • Marks deducted for each wrong answer: -1 (Only for MCQs)
  • There is no Negative Marking for wrong answers for Non-MCQs
  • Overall Difficulty Level: Moderate to Difficult
  • 155-160 Marks in CAT can get you 97-99 percentile

CAT 2019 Exam Slot-2 Analysis

The CAT 2019 Slot-2 exam timing was from 2.30 PM to 5.30 PM. The reporting timing for Slot -2 was 1 pm and no candidate was allowed to enter the CAT Test center after 1.15 Pm. All the candidates reached on time for the slot-2 exam. Slot-2 of CAT 2019 was conducted on the same day on 24th November 2019 and was remained similar to the slot-1 pattern. The difficulty level of the exam was not much changed; even it is a little bit easier than the last two years’ exams. For slot-2, 1.05 candidates appeared with about 14% absentees. The exam was conducted peacefully and glitches freely.

CAT 2019 Result

IIM Kozhikode is the organizer of the CAT 2019 Exam, so the result will be declared by this IIM. CAT 2019 Result is expected to be declared in the second week of January 2020, as per the past trends. The result of CAT 2019 will be announced on January 6, 2020 (tentative date). All the candidates who appeared for the exam will get an SMS as soon as the result announced. Candidates can download the result of CAT 2019 till 31st December 2020. Candidates need their Login ID and password to download the result of CAT. CAT Scores are valid for one session only, which means for one year only.
