NEET UG Counselling 2021; The MBBS aspirants are waiting for counseling and the admission process has not started even a month after the result of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 was declared. The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) in its official statement has indicated that lakhs of students awaiting admission and counseling process in the medical college will have to wait for another month. This is the first official statement from the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) officials regarding medical college admission.
Due to the ongoing case in the Supreme Court, MCC informed the medical college candidates that the NEET UG Counselling 2021 is getting delayed. The SC is assessing the feasibility of placing a limit of Rs 8 lakh for availing the newly introduced EWS quota for medical admissions. The next matter is scheduled for hearing on January 6, so the counseling process is unlikely to start before the verdict.
“All candidates desiring to participate in NEET-UG, 2021 Counselling are hereby informed that the Office Memorandum dated 30.07.2021 is under challenge before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India,” the MCC said in an official notice. “the hearing of the proceedings shall be listed on 6 January 2022,” it added saying, “This is for information to candidates. “
The central government had introduced 27 percent reservation for OBC category students and 10 percent reservation for EWS category candidates. The government of India has categorized the EWS on the basis of income, EWS category seats are reserved for those whose family income is less than Rs.8 lakh. SC had asked the reason behind fixing the limit. It is applicable for both UG and PG admissions. The new policy will be applicable for All India Quota (AIQ) admissions.
In a previous hearing, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court that the government would form a committee to revisit the EWS quota norms and take a fresh decision within four weeks. If the limit is changed, it will mean that more or fewer students will be eligible to avail of the newly introduced quota. Thus, the counseling for both UG and PG medical colleges is on hold till then.
