Out of 945 universities in India 755 universities respond to UGC for final year examination deadline.

There are 945 universities in India as per the list maintain by UGC till 1st of June 2020. UGG had issued guideline on 6th July 2020 the all universities either, central, Deemed to be, State universities and private universities in India to conduct the final year examination because Humane Recourse Development (HRD) Ministry has told university as well as states also that we cannot cancelled universities the final year examination, either university conduct final year exam online or offline. Some of the states and students organizations have sent request to commission and HRD Minister to cancelled the examination due to COVID-19 but HRD Ministry told that first & second year exam can be cancelled but final year we cannot cancelled. The Yuva Sena has moved the Supreme Court against the UGC decision to conduct universities final year examination, Yuva sena is youth wing of Shiva Sena and Aditya Thackeray is chief of Yuva Sena, said that “absolutely absurd and probably from an alternate universe”.

The Commission said, “The performance in examinations contributes to merit, lifelong credibility, wider global acceptability for admissions, scholarships, awards, placements, and better future prospects. A large number of best universities across the world including US, UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and other countries, have conducted or are conducting examinations by giving various options,”

Out of 945 Universities 755 universities have responded and submitted the report that either they have conducted examination or they are planning to conduct final examination. Those 755 universities; 120 Deemed Universities, 274 Private Universities, 40 Central Universities and 321 State Universities

“Out of the 755 universities, 560 have either conducted the examination or are planning to conduct. Among these 560 varsities, 194 have already conducted examination and 366 are planning to conduct examination in online, offline, blended mode in August and September. In addition, 27 Private Universities were established during 2019-20 and their first batch is yet to become eligible for final examination,” Secretary, UGC, said today in a statement.

The UGC postponed academic calendar and instructed universities to plan to finish the semester by till September 30th 2020. Universities have to chart the plan to complete the final year examination online, offline or blended (online & offline mode) mode by prescribed protocol by UGC in this COVID-19 pandemic.

In the guideline of UGC is mentioned that if any case any students unable to appear the exam conducted by universities, The students may be will get opportunity to appear in special exams for such courses which may be conducted by the universities as and when feasible

UGC communicated to the universities on July 8 the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Conduct of Examinations as suggested by HRD Ministry.
