PGDM, MBA courses are “not permissible” in the same Institution; Circular by AICTE

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced a circular that Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) is not permissible for those who organize these courses in the same institution. AICTE is a statutory body that is working under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD); Government of India has released this circular. In this circular AICTE addressed to heads of many institutions, the council said, the affiliated intuitions have an option that Converting all PGDM courses into related MBA courses either with the affiliation of the respective university or vice versa and run under a separate standalone institution. But as per AICTE circular PGDM and MBA programs both cannot run simultaneously by any institutions.

AICTE decided that the standalone institutions will conduct PGDM course. The institutes which are affiliated to any universities, IIMs, and university also have not permission to run PGDM & MBA courses simultaneously. Over time, they have added PGDM courses under the banner of “Management Program” in violation of APH norms in central / state / private universities and deemed universities, circulars from AICTE, which regulates engineering and technical education in the country, said. It is brought to your notice that it is not “Not Permissible” to hold PGDM and MBA courses in the same institution as per the same provisions in Para 2.18 of AICTE Regulations, 2020 and APH 2020-21.

It requested to all central or State or Private Universities or Institutions to be Universities which they are organizing the PGDM and MBA Course Simultaneously under the management banner program they have to convert PGDM courses into MBA and follow the AICTE norms.  Affiliated institute to any university have option to convert the PGDM courses in irregular MBA courses with the regarding university affiliation and they can run their institution as a standalone institute.  

MBA courses name has become very messy so AICTE justifying the course names of MBA for solving the problem of Redundancy and multiplicity. The 73 courses of MBA and PG diploma have been categorized and renamed.
