States cannot promote students without final year degree examination; Supreme Court says

Final Year Examination

Today Supreme Court has given important verdict on student’s final year examination. Supreme Court says that state cannot cancel the examination on Disaster Management Act. There are various students organization had file the multiple petitions against the UGC guideline for conducting final year exam. UGC had issued a guide line on 6th July 2020 to all universities regarding conducting the final year examination till 30th September 2020. UGC also ask the plan from universities that how you will conduct the exam kindly submit the report? There are lots of university they have submitted the plan for conducting final year exam either online or offline, but some students organization and some states they have objected on UGC guideline for conducting examination in this COVID-19 situation and suggested that can promote the students on the basis of previous academic report but UGC told without examination state do not have right to give degree to students then states and students organization went to Supreme Court against UGC guideline.

The UGC told to Supreme Court that universities and colleges conduct the final year exam till 30th September 2020 amid the COVID-19 situation, is “not a diktat” but states cannot take decision to provide degree with holding final year examination. Upholding the UGC decision, the Justice Ashok Bhusan headed the bench told that if states are not able to conduct examination given the time by UGC, the states must approach to UGC for new examination date.

The choices of certain states like Maharashtra and Delhi to drop the final year examination, the UGC had told that the decision will affect on standard of higher education
