Student Initiatives at O.P. Jindal Global University
Students live at O.P. Jindal Global University is not just about being in class and doing homework. It’s about how we treat others. Students have a lot of opportunities to take the lead and be involved in different clubs, competitions and on real-life social issues. Student activities are an integral part of campus life, raging from legal aid to community service to cultural and sporting events.
Legal Aid Clinic
The Legal Aid Clinic of JGU is a student-initiated project, aimed at increasing the accessibility of legal support and awareness. The clinic conducts activities like legal counselling, legal awareness programmes and helps with Public Interest Litigation (PIL) cases.
Right to Education Initiatives
The Legal Aid Clinic has also worked on cases regarding the right to education and admission to school under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. It has provided assistance to families who have issues regarding admission, and has sought the proper legal action.
One such project was the support of a child who was rejected for admission to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota. The clinic followed up the case in court and received a positive verdict for the child.
Human Rights & Social Justice
Jindal University students have also joined in human rights and social justice related activities. The Legal Aid Clinic has filed appeals over alleged police excesses, domestic violence safeguards, and limitations on advocacy sites.
Such ventures provide hands-on experience in legal research, advocacy, public interest efforts and community outreach and enable students to make a difference in the world.
Moot Court Society
The Moot Court Society is an excellent platform for enhancing the debating and arguing skills of law students, and for their courtroom style competitions.
The student society is actively involved in various National and International Moots and provides practical exposure to the students in Legal Research, Drafting, Analysis of Cases and Advocacy Skills. The teams of OP Jindal university have also done very well in competitions like the Oxford Price Media Moot, the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.
Student Clubs, Festivals & Campus Life
Students have a wide choice of clubs, societies, cultural activities and social-service activities other than academic and legal. The university also conducts large scale festivals like Biswamil (cultural festival) and Magnus (sports festival).
In terms of the overall campus environment, OP Jindal university provides students with an educational environment where they learn, lead, compete, volunteer and develop skills out of class.
