FLAME University Reinvents Liberal Education; FLAME University Reinvents Liberal Education and launches Ph.D. program; Flame University is one of the pioneers of liberal education in India. It is now expanding its offerings by introducing optional 4-year undergraduate programme honors, adding new majors and minors to its undergraduate program, introducing a Master of Science in Economics, and establishing doctoral programms. FLAME has always been at the forefront of liberal education in India and constantly innovating its offerings. With the futuristic and rapidly changing world in mind, because, FLAME is reinventing liberal education.

Dr. Dishan Kamdar, Vice-Chancellor, FLAME University, speaking about the real objective of this planned expansion, said, “As higher education aspirations of students undergo a change, it is imperative that education institutions understand their changing needs and model their programmes accordingly. The additions to FLAME University’s academic offerings reflect our purpose to educate and equip the next generation with requisite skills and knowledge that ignite the imagination, foster creativity and an innovative mindset that will motivate them to explore careers of their choice and in the process enable us to contribute to building and shaping the future of a new India.”

Upon graduation, new interdisciplinary majors in data science and economics, computer science, and design and design management will be offered, taking the total number of major offerings from 21 to 24. Minors in Philosophy and Computer Science will now be possible, taking possible combinations of over 350 majors, a testament to Flame commitment to a unique and truly interdisciplinary education in an Indian context. In addition, students have the opportunity to go deeper into their major, continuing their undergraduate education for the fourth year, there will be an option to focus on project-based interdisciplinary learning and earn an honors degree.

Post Graduate Programme

At the postgraduate level, an M.Sc. Started in economics with the belief that the new paradigm of knowledge creation rests on the blending of core knowledge with technological innovations. As such, the program is designed to build a knowledge base for analyzing economic problems with modern data science methodologies. Thus the program will combine economics and data science, two interdependent fields, allowing researchers to access and process big data using advanced econometrics and computational techniques to answer questions from different fields in economics.

Additionally, a Ph.D. Programs in the areas of data science, psychology, economics, and management are designed to develop the next generation of knowledge creators who will be able to approach issues from multiple perspectives, gain unique insights, and develop solutions to pressing problems of academia, will provide effective solutions for and practical interest.

Lastly, the Flame School of Computing and Data Sciences has been established with a vision to be one of the premier centers of education and research in computing technologies, to enable seamless implementation of the expanded offerings. With the existing, the Flame School of Liberal Education, the Flame School of Business, the Flame School of Communication, and the Flame School of Design, Art, and Performance, the university offers a complex, rigorous, and one-of-a-kind liberal education curriculum.
