NAAC Accreditation
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) evaluates and accredits higher education institutions (HEI), such as colleges, universities, or other recognised institutions, to determine the “Quality Status” of the institution. In order to determine whether an institution satisfies the standards of quality, the NAAC evaluates its performance in terms of educational processes and outcomes, curriculum coverage, teaching-learning processes, faculty, research, infrastructure, learning resources, organisation, governance, financial stability, and student services.
According to statistics given to Parliament on Monday, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has not granted accreditation to at least 695 universities and more than 34,000 colleges nationwide. Union Minister of State for Education SubhasSarkar responded to a written inquiry in the LokSabha by offering the details.
Out of the 1,113 universities and 43,796 colleges, the NAAC has accredited 418 institutions and 9,062 colleges, he said, citing figures obtained from the UGC.”In order to incorporate all educational institutions, including colleges and universities, in the accrediting system, the NAAC has drastically reduced the assessment and accreditation fee structure. The connected and constituent colleges’ guidebook for self-study report’s measurements and queries have also significantly dropped “Sarkar went on.
He asserted that there are currently 34,734 colleges operating without NAAC accreditation.
According to the new National Education Policy, all higher education institutions are intended to work towards receiving the highest level of accreditation during the following 15 years (NEP).
Universities and institutes are accredited by the NAAC, an Inter-University Center of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
