Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) is the Central Government of India accrediting body that admits students to B Tech programs in IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs on the basis of their JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSA) is in charge of the counseling process for JEE Main and/or JEE Advanced qualifying candidates. To participate in JoSAA counselling, candidates need to verify that they fulfil the eligibility requirements.
JoSAA Counselling
JoSAA Joint Seat Allocation Authority is likely to be set up by the Ministry of Education (Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)) to monitor and control the combined seat allotment for admission to 114 institutions. This list (others-GFTI) includes 23 IITs, 26 IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, 31 NITs and 29 other government-funded technical institutes. Admission to the academic programs of all these institutions will be done through a single platform, JoSAA. Josaa seat allotment result will be published on the official website josaa.nic.in.
The counseling of candidates who have qualified for JEE Main and/or JEE Advanced is being conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSA). To participate in the JoSAA counselling, candidates have to fulfil the eligibility requirements.
The eligible students have to appear JEE Main or JEE Advanced exam to be eligible for JoSAA counselling. Admissions to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs are based on the JEE Mains scores of the students, but admissions to the major IITs are based on the JEE Advanced scores of the candidates. Candidates may only be considered for a place in the academic program of their choosing provided they meet the following criteria:
- Category of the candidate (Gen, OBC-NCL, SC, etc.)
- Candidate’s position in the list of candidates.
- Candidate’s preferred academic program in order of preference
- The number of seats available in different seat categories/seat quotas for which the candidate qualifies.
- Passed in JEE Advanced for academic programs in IITs and ISM [except preparatory courses].
- Plus fulfils the requirement of “Performance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination” with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, plus one of the following: Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational Subjects. Also, candidates must have passed independently in each subject.
Career and Technical Education (CTE)
JoSAA Joint Seat Allocation Authority; Vocational education, also known as career and technical education (CTE), trains students for jobs that focus on manual or practical tasks that are usually non-academic and are entirely associated with a certain trade, occupation or occupation in which the learner participates. It is sometimes referred to as technical education because the learner gains direct proficiency in a certain set of skills or technology. It helps the candidates to develop an understanding of the real scenarios and prepare to comply with JoSAA Consulting.
There are certain restrictions at the level of institutions/academic programs in IITs/NITs/IIITs/Others-GFTI level for not participating in JoSAA for candidates belonging to Significantly Handicapped and PwD category.
Candidates’ merit in JEE Main or JEE Advanced, as well as their preferences, will be used to determine seat allotment for JoSAA. Those who have been allotted seats have to download an allotment letter and pay the seat acceptance fee. Candidates will have to report to the reporting centres to get their documents verified. Once their documents are verified, candidates will have to report to the designated institute to confirm their seats.
Candidates who clear JEE Main will be eligible for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs (National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology and Graduate Technology Institutes) (Government Funded Technical Institutes). Candidates qualifying JEE Advanced will be allowed to apply for admission to any of the 107 institutes participating in the JoSAA counselling process, including IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology).
