NTA Conduct entrance exam for higher education admission

NTA Entrance Exam; National Testing Agency (NTA) is an Indian government agency approved by the Union Council of Ministers and established in November 2017 to conduct entrance examinations for institutions of higher learning. The government of India appointed Vineet Joshi as the first Director-General of the NTA. NTA is responsible for conducting Joint Entrance Test – Main (JEE Main), National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET UG), National Eligibility Test (NET), Common Management Entrance Test (CMAT) and Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) etc.

History of NTA

The agency’s roots can be traced long back means decade to the Action Plan 1992 relating to the National Education Policy 1986, which refers to the conduct of a national level common entrance examination for professional and non-professional programs of study. Its real beginning was in 2010 with a report submitted to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) by a committee of some directors of the IITs, which recommended that the National Testing Agency be “created by” An Act of Parliament”.

The report mentions that a statutory agency (that is NTA) can ensure independence and transparency in the testing of envisaged quantities. In 2013, the MHRD India constituted a seven-member task force to prepare a blueprint for creating a special purpose vehicle to take forward the concept of the National Testing Agency (NTA). This was following a decision made in April 2013 to establish the agency. An announcement about the NTA was made in the 2017 budget speech by the Finance Minister in 2017, and it was followed by cabinet approval so finally

On 7 July 2018, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said during a press conference that NTA will conduct Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE Main) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET UG) twice a year, and Will also be conducting National Eligibility Test (NET), Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) and Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT)

About NTA

The motive behind NTA will create a system that will promote teaching (by teachers), learning (by students) and assessment (by parents and institutions). NTA strongly believes in the quality, efficiency, effectiveness, equity and safety of evaluation. To practice these values, NTA will continuously engage with its stakeholders, viz. students, parents, teachers, experts and partner institutions.

NTA Function

For examination centers, NTA have to identify partner institutions with adequate infrastructure from existing schools and higher education institutions that would facilitate conducting online examinations without adversely affecting their academic routine.

Creating question banks for all subjects using modern techniques

Establishing a strong R&D culture as well as a pool of experts in various aspects of testing

To help individual colleges and universities in the field of testing and to provide training and advisory services to institutions in India. To provide quality testing services to educational institutions in India.

To develop a state-of-the-art culture of testing in India using domestic and international expertise. To collaborate with international organizations such as ETS to achieve this.

To take any other examination assigned by the state Governments, Government of India and Ministries/Departments any realted to government.

To introduce reform and training of school boards as well as other bodies where testing standards should be comparable with entrance examinations.
