VBSPU Overview
Purvanchal University, Jaunpur renamed Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University in honor of former Chief Minister of the state Late Shri Veer Bahadur Singh established on 2 October 1987 as an affiliating university under U.P. State Universities Act 1973. Continuous qualitative and quantitative growth, excellence in academic and administrative activities, and transparent and efficient academic administration are some of the distinguishing features on the basis of which the University has emerged as one of the leading universities. Starting with 68 affiliated colleges, the university has now widened its spectrum of activities with 367 affiliated undergraduate and postgraduate colleges and an enrollment of about three lahks and eighty thousand students in 5 districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The university is located 10 km from the historic city of Jaunpur on the Jaunpur-Shahganj road, which divides its 171.5-acre campus into two parts. Jaunpur is well connected to the rest of the country by train, road, and air. Infrastructure development, achievement of academic excellence, quality assurance in higher education, and socio-economic development of this highly backward and rural region of Eastern Uttar Pradesh are some of the priority areas for which the University is making its best efforts. The introduction of the two-year full-time residential MBA course in 1990 was the first step towards changing the character of the university from affiliating co-residential university.
