About NEET Exam

NEET Exam (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is considered to be one of the most significant entrance examinations in India among those students who are interested in studying on medical courses. The National Testing Agency conducts it every year. NEET The single admission exam to medical and dental programs in the nation.

What is the NEET Exam?

NEET is an assessment conducted at a national level on students desiring to get undergraduate medical education including MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS among other courses. The test assists the students to secure places in government and private medical colleges in India. In certain institutions, it is also applied in the admission to courses such as veterinary science and nursing.

 

Prior to the introduction of NEET, several medical colleges had their own entrance examination. This complicated the admission process among the students since they were forced to appear in numerous exams. In order to streamline the process, the Government of India came up with NEET as one entrance test to medical education.

NEET Eligibility Criteria

There are some eligibility requirements to the NEET exam by students who desire to take the exam. To begin with the candidate has to be or has already passed 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as major subjects. English is also a subject that is mandatory. 

The lowest eligibility for neet exam age to attend must be 17 years old during admission. Students should also obtain the minimum marks required in their examination on 12th. In most cases, general students require a minimum 50% in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and the students of the reserved category have reduced requirements based on the government rules.

About NEET Exam Pattern

NEET test is held in the offline (pen and paper) format. An OMR sheet is provided to the students who are required to fill the appropriate responses.

The test is designed out of three subjects with 180 multiple choice questions:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology (Botany and Zoology)

As per NEET Exam Pattern right answer will provide 4 marks and wrong ones will deduct 1 mark and hence you should be focused when taking NEET exam and total marks is 720. The time allocated to the exam will be 3 hours and 20 minutes.

About NEET Exam Syllabus

Basically the NEET syllabus is completely based on Class 11 and Class 12th science syllabus.  The subjects are Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. The NCERT textbooks contain a majority of the questions that are to be asked and thus students are encouraged to read these books keenly.

The key areas of concern are human physiology, genetics, ecology, chemical bonding, thermodynamics, mechanics, and organic chemistry.

NEET Application Process

Students have an opportunity to apply to the NEET exam using the official site of the National Testing Agency. The application process normally begins several months prior to the exam.

The basic steps include:

  • Sign up on the official website 
  • Complete personal information and academic information.
  • Attach necessary records like photo and signature.
  • Make an online payment of the application fee.
  • Complete the form and save the confirmation page.

Before filling the application form, students are supposed to ensure that all the details are checked.


About NEET Exam Result and Counselling

The results are announced online after the exam. A scorecard is provided to students displaying their marks and percentile, and rank. According to these findings, students undergo admission counselling when seeking to join medical colleges.

15% All India Quota seats are done through counselling by the Medical Counselling Committee and the remaining 85% state quota seats have to be done by respective state authorities.
