
China University of Petroleum was established in 1953, and then it was known as Beijing Petroleum Institute, it was located in Qingdao and it’s a branch called China University of Petroleum in Beijing. Both are the universities is known as the best universities in the field of petroleum. The university is placed under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education. It is one of the universities with graduate school. In 1953, The University moved to Dongying, Shandong province, with the name changed to Huadong Petroleum Institute. In 1988, again name changed to The University of Petroleum consisting of one part in Dongying as the college and one in Beijing as the graduate school. Both of the school developed one by one into universities with both undergraduate and graduate students. In 1997, the university became a member of the first “Project 211” universities and in 2006; it was nominated as one of the universities to construct National Innovation Platform.
In 2000, the school established a graduate school. In January 2005, it was again changed the name to China University of Petroleum. in 2014, The Ministry of Education and 5 major companies compositely established China University of Petroleum. The Dongying campus currently does a service as the base for continuing education, research laboratories, remote education and industry collaboration.
