Overview

Heidelberg University is a public research university in Heidelberg, Germany. Heidelberg University founded in 1386 on instruction of Pope Urban IV, Heidelberg is the oldest university in Germany and one of the oldest surviving universities in the world. Heidelberg University was the third university established in the Holy Roman Empire. The university has twelve faculties and offers degree programs at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels in some 100 disciplines. Heidelberg consists of three major campuses: Mankind is primarily located in the Old Town of Heidelberg, the natural sciences and medicine at the Neuenheimer Feld quarter. The language of instruction is usually German, while a considerable number of undergraduates are offered in English.

Between 1414 and 1418, university theology and jurisprudence professors attended the Council of Constables and served as counselors to Louis III, who attended this council as a representative of the emperor and chief magistrate. This established a good reputation for the university and its professors. The change from scholastic to humanistic culture was effected by Chancellor and Bishop Johann von Dalberg in the late 15th century. Humanism was represented at Heidelberg University, in particular by the founders of the old German humanitarian school Rudolf Agricola, Conrad Celtes, Jakob Wimpfeling, and Johann Reuchlin.

When the university was re-established as a state-owned institution by Karl Friederich, Grand Duke of Baden, who was allotted a share of the Palatinate on the right bank of the Rhine. Since then, the university retained its name with the name of Ruprecht I. The German Students Association exercised great influence, which was at first patriotic and later political. Eventually Romanticism had ended; Heidelberg became the center of liberalism and the movement in favor of German national unity.

There are three campuses of Heidelberg University:-

2- Neuenheimer Feld – New Campus

3- Bergheim Campus

Its prominent professors are philosophers Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Karl Jaspers and Hans-Georg Gadamer, natural scientists Robert Bunsen, Hermann von Helmholtz and Gustav Kirchhoff, national economists and sociologists Max and Alfred Weber, lawyers Gustav Redbruch and psychologist and psychologist Alexander. Those studying at Heidelberg include reformer Philip Melanchthon, Baroque poet Martin Opitz, composer Robert Schumann, writer Joseph von Eichendorff, philosopher Hannah Arendt, psychoanalyst Margarethe Mitscherlich, and former federal chancellor Helmut Kohl; Monica Harms, likewise, was the first woman to become Federal Advocate-General and Wolfgang Ketterle, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics. Other notable figures are associated with the university as honorary senators or honorary citizens, and this remains true today.
