
The Palawan State University (PSU) was established in June 19, 1965 and has started operating since March 2, 1972. Before Palwan State University it has humble beginnings as a teacher-training institution known as Palawan Teacher’s College (PTC). The founder of this University is Walfrido R. Ponce de Leon.
The main mission or motive of the University is committed to upgrade the quality and standard of life of the people by providing higher education opportunities through well instruction, research, production services and transnational collaboration and innovations.
In 1984, PTC was recognized as Palawan State College which authorized the school and offered the undergraduate degrees in the Arts, Sciences and Technology. But in November 12, 1994 it converts into a state university a decade later Republic Act 7818.
The main campus is situated in Tiniguiban, Puerto Princesa City is sprawled out on a 68-hectare site, where the central administration and executive offices, undergraduate and graduate colleges and the Laboratory High School are located with school with eight colleges.
PSU have two main campuses: the Manalo Campus and the Main Campus in Tiniguiban Heights, which houses the administration building. The Philippines was granted to the United States in 1898 following the Spanish-American War. In 1935 the Philippines became self-governing, but their independence was delayed by World War II and the attacked by Japanese soldiers.
Ferdinand Marcos was elected president in 1965. He decided to declare martial law in 1972, which ruled until 1981. After 20 years of rule, Marcos was driven from power in 1986. Corazon Aquino became president and instituted a period of democratic rule in the country. Hundreds of species of birds live in the Philippines, either for all or part of the year, including peacocks, pheasants, doves, parrots, kingfishers, sunbirds, tailorbirds, weaverbirds, and hornbills. The endangered Philippine eagle, which eats monkeys, is barely surviving deforestation.
