Overview

Oxford University was founded in 1096 and it is located in Oxford, England. Oxford is one of the oldest universities in the English-speaking world. Oxford has combined a serious new analysis capability in the natural and applied sciences with medicine. University assets have been increasing by about 5% per year for the last 15 years. Over the last eight decades, Oxford has been making significant contributions to society not only locally but also nationally and internationally. Oxford is located approximately 60 miles northwest of London and today has 240 buildings at 13 sites in and around Oxford.

The University has 39 constituent colleges and a wide range of academic departments. These colleges and departments are organized into four divisions. These academic divisions are Medical Sciences; Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences; Humanities and Social Sciences. All the colleges of the university are self-governing institution. Each college controls its own membership and own activities.

The University offers many facilities to the students like accommodation, catering, social spaces, pastoral care and many other facilities. It provides centralized student services, including careers and counseling, as well as resources such as libraries, laboratories and museums.

Oxford currently has a total enrollment of approximately 24,000 students including 11,747 undergraduate and 11,687 postgraduate students. Most undergraduate students studying at Oxford come from state schools and the university also offers 350 different undergraduate degree programs. A world-class, modern and research-driven university, Oxford has been ranked in the top six globally in engineering, life sciences, social sciences and arts and humanities.

Oxford has a strong alumni base of over 2.75 lakh people spread in almost every country on the planet. Oxford's academic community consists of more than 80 Fellows of the Royal Society and 170 Fellows of the British Academy. Oxford's research activity consists of over 70 departments. The colleges have more than 1,800 academic staff, 5,500 research and research support staff and 6,100 graduate research students.
