Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust was founded with a visionary mission to transform higher education in Tamil Nadu. In 1984, under the strategic leadership of Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan, the Trust achieved a significant milestone by launching Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), pioneering the concept of self-financing engineering education in Tamil Nadu. This bold move set a new benchmark in the education sector and established BIST as a trailblazer in private engineering institutions. This ground breaking initiative set the stage for the Trust's future endeavors in medical and allied health sciences education.
Continuing its pursuit of academic excellence, the Trust founded Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital in 1989. The institution swiftly gained prominence, and in July 2002, it was conferred the status of a Deemed to be University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, as per the provisions of Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.This prestigious recognition marked the formation of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER), which now oversees a growing network of distinguished institutions dedicated to advancing education across various disciplines.
