The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur is a public higher education engineering portal which is located at Durgapur, West Bengal, India. It is formerly known as the Regional Engineering College, Durgapur (REC Durgapur). It was established in 1960 by the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Bidhan Chandra Roy. NIT Durgapur is the first 8th Regional Engineering Colleges established in India as a co-operative venture between the Government of India and the Government of West Bengal. Currently, it is one of 32nd National Institutes of Technology in India and has been accepted as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India under the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007. In 200, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India updated it in all the 17 Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) to National Institute of Technology (NITs). In July 2003, the campus was granted DEEMED University status with the approval of the UGC/AICTE and it was renamed to the National Institute of Technology Durgapur. The size of this campus is 187 acres land which is fully residential and co-educational.
NIT Durgapur, being an old generation NIT, aims to create cost-effective technical leaders, global managers, and entrepreneurs with strong conceptual foundations and analytical approach to help them be the best in whichever field they choose. The aim to move the needs of modern technique, can have connective to the globally and connecting the student to the WORLD and are respected internationally, to imparting the quality of technical and scientific education and mainly focus on research and innovation to produce best engineers, technologists, scientists and citizen who can contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the country and shine in various disciplines of knowledge. NIT Durgapur is upgrading its goodwill year by year and increasing its portfolio, fulfills all activities which are the basic requirement of the student.
This institute’s environment has covered by the expert from the field the technical system. The learning process here to helps the student connect to the industry and other stakeholders in a multidimensional way. And make the student realizes the reality of real-life and makes them come out of the problems and run to achieve the big in life.
This institute offers different types of courses in UG (B.Tech, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering), PG (M.Tech, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Information Technology, Corrosion Science and Technology {M.Sc in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics), and Ph.D. and Certificate courses. The Exams are taken based on State Rank/ All India Rank of AIEEE conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education- JEE Main, GATE, CAT, NIMCET, etc... Some few seats are reserved for Foreign students who are nominated by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and the India Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India.

•    The National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra ranked 46 among all the Engineering College in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
•    The scholarship is offered to deserving and meritorious candidates on the “merit-cum-means” basis, Nityagopal and Himarmati Memorial Scholarship, Central Sector Scholarship Scheme of Top Class Education for SC, Rajarshee Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship, Sitaram Jindal Foundation Scholarship. The campus also reserved a specific number of scholarships for candidates from states like Nagaland, Assam, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Bihar and more. NIT Durgapur also provides financial help to foreign students studying in the Institute. 
•    The placement facility is increased by 55%, 85-90% of students placed and showed their talent in the front of the companies and secured their career and also have the opportunity to do an internship with global industry. The highest salary was gone up to 40 LPA, the average stood at 10 LPA.

This Exam is conducted once in a year usually in the month of November on online mode and it is expected that this year this exam will held in the last week of November. The question paper contains 100 questions to be solved in 3 hours. 3 marks are assigned for correct answer and 1 mark is deducted for wrong answer in CAT Exam. English is the only medium of answering the questions. Each question consists of four choices from which only one is correct, candidates have to select the right answer from the given options.

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension Section

This section is a combination of two sub-sections namely Verbal Ability (VA) and Reading Comprehension (RC). The main focus of this section is on the English language skills of the candidates and how they understand and elucidate the paragraphs and Passages. This section consists of 34 questions, 10 questions of Verbal Ability and 24 questions of Reading Comprehension. Verbal ability sub-section consists of questions related to Para-jumbles, Summary based questions, Sentence Correction and Completion. The other sub-section, Reading Comprehension is based on the questions related to Vocabulary, title etc.

Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation Section

This section is also divided into two sub-sections, one is Logical Reasoning (LR) and other is Data Interpretation (DI). A total of 32 questions are asked in this section, 16 questions from both the sub-section. LR section contains solvable questions generally from the topics like inequalities, symbol operations, direction sense test etc. On the other hand DI section is a little difficult and time-consuming section as it consists of several confusing data case lets questions. This section contains tricky question and a little mistake in understanding the case lets can lead the candidates to attempt all the questions from a particular set incorrectly.

Quantitative Aptitude Section

This section is a standalone section which comprises only numerical questions from different topics of Math. A total of 34 questions are asked in this section. This section contains questions based on Basic Arithmetic, Number System, Geometry, Algebra, Modern Math etc. The questions in this section ranges from easy to moderately high and can be answered easily with proper practice of the syllabus of Quantitative Aptitude.
