Indian Institute of Information Technology Surat, founded in the year 2017 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), IIIT Surat Gujarat is one of the twenty- three Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) set up in the country. The institute works on a not-for-profit Public Private Partnership basis and is jointly financed by industry partners and State Government. The IIIT in Surat is currently mentored by Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) and will continue to be its mentor until it shifted to its new campus.
The academic structure of IIIT Surat was built to deal with the obstacles faced by the Indian Information Technology Industry and the growth of the domestic IT Market. The institute provides mainly two UG programmes in Engineering consisting of the streams - Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. Admission to these courses is conducted on the basis of performance in Entrance Exams like JEE Main. 
Being a newly established Indian Institute of Information Technology, only two years, the institution hasn’t met the criteria placed by national ranking frameworks to be rated . Thus as for now, IIIT Surat ranking cannot be decided as it does not meet any criteria for rating and ranking. The IIIT Surat faculty is considered to be highly qualified, with most professors holding a PhD in their respective field of study. Since the institute is mentored by a National Institute of Technology, students can expect teaching standards similar to that of NITs.
