JIS Group Educational Initiatives started its adventure 24 years ago and is now the largest educational conglomerate in Eastern India with 37 institutions, 170 programmes, and 39,000 students. The journey has been largely successful despite being far from straightforward. The JIS University Act, 2014 (West Bengal Act XXII of 2014), a piece of legislation that became operative in February 2015, established JIS University.

The university's objective is to rank among India's best institutions of higher learning and to be a top choice for teachers, researchers, and students. All courses at JIS University are duly accredited and affiliated by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, as well as the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Bar Council of India (BCI), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), and United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI). JIS University has been a member of the Association of Indian Universities since 2017. (AIU).
