Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, situated in Coimbatore, has a rich history that dates back to 1957. It was founded by the distinguished patriot and educationist, Padma Bhushan Dr. T.S. Avinashilingam, whose lifelong commitment to empowering women through education laid the foundation for the institute. Originally established as an aided college under the Avinashilingam Education Trust, the institute started with a humble beginning, enrolling just 45 women students in its first batch.

Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas, a pioneering figure in the field of Home Science, played a vital role in the growth and development of the institution. Her vision, dedication, and leadership were instrumental in elevating the institute to its current stature as a premier center for women’s education in India. Over the years, the institute expanded its academic offerings and infrastructure, evolving from a small college into a distinguished university dedicated to higher education for women, while remaining deeply rooted in its original mission of promoting Home Science education.
