CHRIST (Deemed to be University) traces its origins to the visionary efforts of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, a prominent educationalist and social reformer from 19th-century South India. In 1831, he founded the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the first Catholic indigenous congregation, which today administers CHRIST (Deemed to be University).

Originally established as Christ College in 1969, the institution has been at the forefront of transformative advancements in Indian higher education. It has introduced innovative and contemporary curricula, upheld a strong commitment to academic discipline, emphasized holistic education, and adopted global best practices in higher education. These milestones have been made possible through the dedication and creativity of its exceptional faculty and staff.
