The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Dharwad is one of twenty third IIITs established under non-profit basis. This higher study institute was jointly set up on the basis of Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India had approved the coming of IIIT Dharwad. This academic and research Institute is financed on PPP basis, Government of India, Government of Karnataka and industrial partner Keonics are member of PPP Model. This Institute has also received the honour of being an Institute of National Importance under the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act of Parliament. The Institute is one of the recently set up IIITs. IIIT Dharwad commenced its academic session from August 2015. 
B.Tech Programmes in Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering are currently offered by the institute. Both the B.tech programs are four years regular programs. IIIT Dharwad offers its engineering programs in two specializations. Currently, the Institute is operating from a temporary campus located at IT Park, Hubballi. Its new campus will be built on 61 acres of land at Tadasinakoppa near Dharwad very soon. 
The campus consists of a newly setup computer and electronics lab which are equipped with necessary equipment. Faculty member at IIIT Dharwad are well qualified and supportive which helps in maintaining and justifying the tag of Institute of National Importance. The campus has its own library which is stuffed with necessary books and journals.
