The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Nagpur (IIITN) is one of 20 Indian Institutes of Information Technology established by the Ministry of Education (formerly the Ministry of Human Resource Development) of the Government of India under the Public-Private Partnership Scheme. The Indian Institute of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act of 2017 designated IIITN as an "Institution of National Importance." The Institute began operations in 2016-17 and relocated to Butibori Nagpur under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, and is supported by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Maharashtra, and Tata Consultancy Services, Mumbai as an industry partner. PPP was used to establish the institute (Public-Private Partnership). Stakes of the institute are held by MHRD, the Government of Maharashtra and Industry mates at the rate of 1073. The council is guided by the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) for indefectible functioning.

IIIT offers Engineering courses in two aqueducts. These courses are Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) courses in the specializations videlicet Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science Engineering. The institute provides courses to fill 120 B.tech seats in Electronics and Communication Engineering and 90 B.tech seats in Computer Science Engineering. The first batch of students at IIIT Nagpur consisted of only 40 students. The institute is also considering introducing Master of Engineering courses; it may soon launch M.tech and Doctor of Philosophy programmes.

Admission to the Institute’s courses videlicetB.tech is done on the basis of the performance in JEE Mains test which is considered the toughest test to crack. Scholars, who wish to get admission to this prestigious institute, need to secure a minimum of 75 in 10 2 with mandatory subjects as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. This is the foremost eligibility criteria for appearing in the JEE Main test and for being eligible forB.Tech courses offered by IIIT Nagpur. Shortlisted campaigners will get seats in IIIT Nagpur through Centralized Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) and Common Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). The seat will be assigned based on government reservations.
