Indian Institutes of Information Technology, Sonepat is an institute of National importance established by Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The idea of setting up IIIT Sonepat is a result of the act of MHRD. MHRD introduced the bill in the parliament in 2013, regarding establishment of 20 new IIITs in different parts of the country. As per the bill, IIIT Sonepat was established in 2014 in PPP mode by Ministry of HRD, Government of India; State Government of Haryana and Industries partners. IIIT Sonepat is committed towards generating highly competent professionals of global standards for the development and growth of information Technology industry.  All the IIITs are also given the responsibility of developing new knowledge in the field of IT.
IIIT Sonepat currently offers B.tech program in two streams, one is Information Technology (IT) and Computer Science & Engineering (CSE). The institute is currently offering admission to 60 seats of each batch. IIIT Sonepat is mentored by NIT Kurukshetra and has been operating from the campus of its mentor institute. Admission to the courses offered by IIIT Sonepat is same as other IIITs. The institute takes students for admission to its engineering courses through Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) and Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). JOSAA allocation is based on the rank of the students in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main).

IIIT Manipur has been maintaining good record in placement. Till today, it organized convocation of two batches, 2014-2018 and 2015-2019. This Year approx 82% students get placed in highly reputed companies. About 22 companies participated in the recruitment process. The average package offered to the batch is Rs. 8.19 Lakh and the highest package offered is Rs. 40.63 lakhs per annum.
