The National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur is also known as NIT Hamirpur or NITH and was established in the year of 1986 as a joint and cooperative enterprise of the Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh, is one of the top-ranked universities. This is a public engineering college which is located in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, India. Among all NIT it is on 31st positions established, governed and funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Department. On 26 June 2002, REC Hamirpur was awarded the status of deemed university and upgraded into a National Institute of Technology. As a result of this transition, the institute came under the sole purview of the Government of India. It was awarded the status of Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament along with other NITs and IITs.

This institute offers 32 courses in 5 streams and 20 departments (courses are available for undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral degrees). For getting admission in NIT Hamirpur student will have to go through various types of Entrance Exam-JEE Main, GATE, CAT/MAT/CMAT, NIMCET, etc. but for the Ph.D. students, students must have to appear the Entrance Exam/Personal Interview.
