National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur was founded on 15th August 1960 by Dr. Srikrishna Sinha, the Chief Minister of the Bihar as formally known as Regional Institute of Technology, is an Institute of National Importance located at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India. There is a Joint Venture between the Government of India and the Government of Bihar in the group of RECs (Regional Engineering College) in India with the status of a Deemed University, accordance to Govt. of India.  It is one of the 32nd NITs in India, and as such is directly under the control of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) since in 1st April, 2003. It is the 3rd group of 8 NITs established as part of the Second Five Year Plan (1956-61) by the Government of India. This campus has signed MoU with institutes, industries and Government Departments such as TATA MOTORS, Govt. of Jharkhand, IIT Delhi, CSIR and MMUT, Gorakhpur for innovation, creativity, education and research purposed. It is self-containing campus spreading over on 341.3 acres.

This campus presenting different types of courses in undergraduate, postgraduate and Doctoral courses in Engineering, Computer Applications, and Science. Having 12 departments for providing the course. To get admission in NIT Jamshedpur, students must have to go through different types of Entrance Exam for their various types of courses-JEE Main, IIT JAM, and GATE, NIMCET. For the Doctoral Students will be selected on the basis of previous academic merit list, written exam, and interview conducted by the institute.
