This institute is one of the 30th positions in National Institute of Technology founded and directed by the Government of India. It has joint venture/enterprise between the Government of India and the Government of Punjab, India as the Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra (REC Kurukshetra). So that it was renamed to the National Institute of Technology under the NIT Act and had offered a Deemed University Status.

This campus presenting various types of courses in Undergraduate (B.Tech), Postgraduate (M.Tech, MCA, MBA), Ph.D. (for full-part time). For getting admission to this campus students must go through the various Entrance Exam- JEE Main, GATE, and NIMCET, etc. All admissions were made on the basis of merit in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination.
