The National Institute of Technology has started its journey with Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology(VNIT), Nagpur is also known as VREC (Visvesvaraya Regional Engineering College), is a public higher engineering educational portal which is located at Nagpur, Maharashtra in central of India. Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur is the 31th Regional Engineering Colleges in NITs world of India which was founded in 1960.  VNIT was transformed into National Institute of Technology (NIT) system. In 2007, the institute was offered the status of Deemed University fully authorized by the Government of India and later named in honor of engineer, planner and statesman, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya., Under the National Institute of Technology Act-2007. This institute is delivering best quality of education, training and research in technology in a creative circumstance.

It has its own set up campus, full-furnished and world-class room facilities on campus on the land approx 251acres. The thing important is here that VNIT provides hostel facilities also with the high quality of food; double occupy hygiene room and amenities for their own facilities like TV, Refrigerator, Washing machine, Wi-Fi etc. And also includes a library, state of the art classrooms, computing facilities, sports etc.

Many courses are offered by the VNIT in UG programme, PG programs, and M.Sc. programme, Ph.D. For taking the admission in VNIT applicants have to go through the various Entrance Exams-JEE (for B.Tech) which is conducted by CBSE, GATE (for M.tech), IIT-JAM (for M.Sc) and for PhD. Programs GATE or NET examination must be cleared. The candidate must have experience of 5 years in the same field. Every year seats sizes increase by 33%-35%, more than 1000 student admitted every year, similarly the number of seat of post graduate also duplicated as of 2018.
