National Institute of Technology has started its career from Surat in 1961. But in the same year NIT’s industry established its new building also by the name of National Institute of Technology, located at Calicut in Kerala. As we are here to know that it is a self-governing federally funded technical university as well as an Institute of National Importance accepted by the Government of India through the NIT Act which was passed by the Parliament of India in 2007.  It was built in 1961 and in 2002 was also known as Calicut Regional Engineering College.  This institute is out of National Institutes of Technology campuses inaugurate by the Government of India to contributing the high standard of Technical education from all over the country.

National Institute of Technology, Calicut is highly concern with to make a unique identification through the innovation, technology, creation and publication for development of the society. NITC trains their students with best quality of human knowledge with the help of society resource, through which they can stand on international level with the highest range. In upcoming year, NITC is going to change their Academic Growth, Resource and Innovation, Resource Generation and Infrastructure and Social Infrastructure with the focus on employment and their importance.  The mission of this NIT is to expand high standard of technical education with a personal sound, focus on the basic engineering principles, technical and managerial skills, innovative research capabilities, conducting professional leader to use best technology for the progressive of mankind, modify their self to changing technological environment with the highest honorable values as the inner strength…. It has great infrastructure. It conducts workshops and seminars to give publicity to the student about the Industry.

Various types of courses are provided by the NITC in UG programme, PG programs, and M.Sc. programme, Ph.D. For taking admission in these all courses are, applicants have to appear the examination which is conducted on the National Level such as JEE Main, GATE, JAM, NIMCET and CAT.
