XAT Exam Pattern 2022

Xavier Aptitude Test is an online entrance exam for Management courses which is conducted by XLRI (Xavier Labour Relations Institute). XAT exam is one of the oldest entrance exams. This exam is being conducted for 60 years and XAT 2022 will be the third computer based test in the 60+ year’s history of XAT. XAT exam pattern has undergone many changes over the year like it had been conducting in offline mode for the past 60 years but now it is conducted in online mode only. The exam paper also included essay writing till 2019 but it has also been removed. There will be no essay writing in XAT 2022. The duration of the exam has also minimized from 3.5 hours to 3 hours. But the Pattern of XAT 2022 is expected to be same as the last year. XAT 2022 will be conducted in online mode means, it will a computer based exam.

1. Verbal and Logical Ability

  • 26 questions are asked in this section
  • All the questions  in this section are MCQs type
  • This section contains four Reading Comprehension Passages
  • Around 14 to 16 questions are asked from the four RC Passages
  • Around  8 to 10 questions are asked from Verbal Ability

2. Decision Making

  • 22 questions are asked in this section
  • MCQ type questions are asked
  • There are around 6 to 8 sets of Decision making problems

3. Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation

  • A total of 27 questions are asked in this section
  • This section contains both moderate as well as difficult questions
  • This sections is generally based on Math’s topics

4. General Knowledge

  • This section contains 25 questions
  • The questions are MCQ type
  • Only 15 minutes are given to attempt this section
  • General Awareness and General Knowledge questions are asked in this section.
  • G.K section is not considered for Percentile calculation in XAT.

XAT Marking Scheme

  • As regarding the marking scheme, one mark is awarded for correct answer
  • There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.
  • There is a choice to leave 8 questions unattempted for which there is no negative marking.
  • But beyond 8 unattempted questions there will be a negative marking of 0.05 marks.
  • There is no negative marking for MCQs in GK section of XAT Exam.
