JEE Advanced ELIGIBILITY Criteria 2022

Eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced have been released by IIT Kharagpur as it is the organizing institute this year. For appearing in JEE Advanced candidates have to fulfil the eligibility criteria as decided by the conducting IIT. There are certain criteria on the basis of which candidates are held eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced. Following are the criteria:

Criteria 1- Performance in JEE Main 2022

For appearing in JEE Advanced, candidates need to be in top 2,50,000* (including reserved categories) in Paper 1 of JEE Main 2021. However, in the case of tied ranks/ scores, the total number of candidates can be slightly greater than 2,50,000* The percentages of various categories of candidates to be shortlisted are given below:

5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates within each of the four categories. There is a certain order which has to be followed while choosing top 2,50,000* candidates of various categories based on their performance in Paper 1 of JEE Main 2021. The order is tabulated below:

Criteria -2 Age Limit

  • Candidates should have been born on or after 1st October 1996.
  • There is an age relaxation of five years for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
  • The SC, ST and PwD candidates should born on or after October 1, 1991

Criteria 3 - Number of Attempts

  • Candidates can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in consecutive years

Criteria 4 - Year of Passing 12th Class

  • Candidates should have appeared for the Class 12th or equivalent examination for the first time in the academic year 2020 or 2021.
  • If certain Examination Board of class 12th or equivalent declares the results for the session 2019-20 after June 2020, then the candidates of that Board can appear in JEE Advanced 2021. They must meet the other JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria also.
  • In case, Examination Board of class 12th or equivalent declares the result for the session 2019-20before June 2020, but the result of a particular student is withheld, then the candidate will be not held eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced 2021.

Criteria 5 - Earlier admission at IITs

  • For being eligible, a candidate should not have been admitted in any IIT irrespective of whether he or she has continued the program or not.
  • A candidate should not have accepted IIT seat by reporting at the reporting centre in the past.
  • Candidates who have been admitted in any of the IITs for a preparatory course for the first time in 2020 can appear for JEE Advanced.
  •  The candidate who has paid seat acceptance fee in 2020 but

(i) Didn’t report at the reporting centre OR

(ii) Withdrew before the commencement of last round of seat allotment OR

(iii) Had cancelled their seat for any reason before the last round of seat allotment for IITs is eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced 2020.

Eligibility Criteria for International Candidates

  • Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1996.
  • Candidates can appear for a maximum of two times in the consecutive years for JEE Advanced.
  • Candidate should have appeared for the examination of class 12th or equivalent for the first time in either 2019 or 2020.
  • Candidate must have secured a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in 12th class or equivalent examination.
  • The candidate must be within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their 12th class board examination.

Candidates who come under the following category will be considered as Foreign Nationals for JEE Advanced 2021:

  • Non - citizens of India (either by birth or naturalized).
  • Non - OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) and Non-PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) Category.
  • Candidates whose parents do not come under the category of the citizen of India and also do not fall under the OCI/PIO category.
